- 2 Cups Self-Rising Flour Sifted
- 3 Sticks Unsalted Butter
- 1 Cup Buttermilk Cold

Grate 1 stick of butter into a small bowl, add in freezer.
Preheat the oven to 450°F. Place a cast iron skillet in the oven with 4 tablespoons of butter to melt.
In a large bowl, sift the self-rising flour. Add the grated cold butter and use your hands or a fork to incorporate until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Create a well in the center of the flour and pour in the cold buttermilk. Gently fold with a spatula until a thick dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead gently, folding it over itself 5-8 times. Flatten the dough and use a biscuit cutter to press straight down (do not twist). Cut 4-6 biscuits and set aside. Repeat with remaining dough.
Place biscuits in the buttered cast iron skillet. Bake at 450°F, brushing with remaining melted butter every 10 minutes, until golden brown.
Once golden, brush with a final layer of butter.
